Spoiler alert: I'm going to Mexico for 4 months!

Welcome to the blog that will hopefully document my next 4 months! Why the next 4 months (since it seems like a relatively specific time span)? Well, it will be within this period that I will be studying abroad in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico sponsored by Ursinus College. Believe it or not, in only 10 days (on January 6th) I will begin my adventure with Boot Camp in Mensch Mills. And 4 days after that (on January 10th) it's off to Mexico! But let's just start with the general information for now, yes?

Semester summary:

  • January 6th - January 9th: Boot Camp in Mensch Mills
  • January 10th: I bid farewell to the United States and fly to the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico!
  • Weeks 1 - 5 (January 11th to February 14th): I will be living in a homestay in the city of Merida (located on the northwest side of the peninsula). During this time I will be taking a Spanish class and then later The Maya: Ancient and Modern.
  • Weeks 6 - 7 (February 15th to February 25th): The continuation of The Maya: Ancient and Modern plus the course Biology of Maya Mexico while stationed at the Kaxil Kiuic Biocultural Reserve.
  • Week 8 (March 1st to March 6th): Caribbean reef studies in Puerto Morelos. At this point, I will have traveled across the peninsula to the east coast to a city located just below Cancun. I enjoy a 3-day long Spring Break of sorts from March 3rd to March 5th!
  • Week 9 (March 7th to March 15th): Touring Mayan ruins and learning about tropical biology
  • Week 10 - 15 (March 16th to April 19th): My last five weeks will be spent in San Cristobal de las Casas studying Evolution and the modern Maya while living in a homestay. I have now traveled a diagonal southwest path down the peninsula to the mountainous San Cristobal.
  • April 20th: I make my triumphant return to the United States from the airport at Tuxtla Gutierriz!
And there you have it: My life for the next 4 months! If my schedule interests you or you find me to have something of a pleasing personality or character and would like to remain in contact, check up on this blog from time to time maybe leave a comment. I will post pictures and updates as frequently as possible (and where ever the ever-elusive internet connection of Mexico can be achieved).

It is a thrilling endeavor that I am very excited to share! So join me (in a very metaphorical sense) on my trip to Mexico!

Looking forward to it,
Regan
